Farmers are the solution to poverty and hunger. They make up the majority of the population in the world’s developing countries. And they are some of the hardest-working people on the planet.

One Acre Fund puts Farmers First in everything that we do. By listening to our boss, we created a simple new way for her to significantly increase farm income on every planted acre. We are now 3,000 staff strong, and growing fast.

A Business Solution for Smallholder Farmers.

Smallholder farmers living in remote places need support in more than one area. We provide a complete set of services within walking distance of the farmers we serve. Our service bundle includes:

  1. Financing for farm inputs
  2. Distribution of seed and fertilizer
  3. Training on agricultural techniques
  4. Market facilitation to maximize profits from harvest sales

Farming is the dominant economic activity of the world’s poor. One Acre Fund makes that activity significantly more productive. We are growing as fast as possible to capture an incredible opportunity.

VISION

Farmers are the Answer.

When farmers improve their harvests, they pull themselves out of poverty. They also start producing surplus food for their neighbors. When farmers prosper, they eradicate poverty and hunger in their communities.

One Acre Fund is growing quickly and we are proud to soon represent Africa’s largest network of smallholder farmers. By 2020, we will serve at least 1 million farm families - with more than 5 million people living in those families.  And our farmers will produce enough surplus food to feed another 5 million of their neighbors.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. When millions of farmers speak with one voice, we can more effectively pursue collaboration together with government and the private sector to broaden our reach.

Compatible Technology International (CTI) is a nonprofit that designs and distributes innovative tools that help families in the developing world rise above hunger and poverty.

How do we work?

First, we listen. Using a human centered approach, we start by talking with farmers, many of whom are women, to understand their concerns, their needs and their culture. Once we have a good understanding of their post-harvest needs, we research existing solutions and develop new prototypes in collaboration with communities in the developing world. New innovations are first launched in a pilot program, where we assess the effectiveness of a new tool, research its potential impact, and develop a distribution plan.

We know collaboration is key. Our work doesn’t just happen in the shop. We take our innovations forward through regional distribution centers at our US headquarters, in Central America, and in West Africa. Recognizing that ‘give aways’ are largely ineffective, we are committed to providing tools at an affordable price and we work closely with in-country partners who manufacture our tools and provide financing and business training to local communities.
